Miyuki Tsujikawa.
Born in Japan where my mom's parents were born and not too far away from Okinawa where my dad's parents were born. A Japanese native who opened up her apartment for us to stay while in Japan. A most gracious and hospitable hostess who cooked delicious Japanese meals for us (Somen noodles). A caring guide who helped us navigate our way in, around and outside of Tokyo. Someone who spent time not only sharing meals, seeing sites and hanging with her friends - but also, who simply shared her apartment and made us feel at home!
Coming from Japanese descent I certainly felt a connection rooted in my ethnic heritage. The kinship I felt, however, came from an entirely different place - India. Shruthi and I first met Miyuki back in June at the yoga ashram we went to in Neyyer Dam, Kerala. Exploring life in ways connected to the ideals of yogic philosophy is how we met and how we became friends.
An experience and friendship I am very thankful for having.
